Şikayet eden bir insanım
Hemen konuya giriyorum:
Bizim okulda (LSU Health Science Center – luiziyana eyalet yuniversitası sağlık bilimleri merkezi) aslında genellikle tıp ve hemşirelik öğrencileri var. Temel bilimler, mühendislik fakültesi vs gibi bölümlerin lisans öğrencileri Baton Rouge’daki LSU kampüsünde, yani başka bir şehirde. Biz bir avuç lisansüstü “cool” insanlar olarak kendi halimizde takılıyoruz. Fakat bazen tıp fakültesinden de ders alıyoruz, kocaman amfilerde bir sürü tıp öğrencisi ile. Ben de bu dönem o derslerden biri olan “Histoloji”yi alıyor olduğum içindir ki bu tıp öğrencisi denen organizmayı yaşam alanında inceleme fırsatını elde ettim.
Şimdi esasen Amerikan gençliğinden niye hazzetmediğimi ne kadar yazsam azdır. Hala alışamadım bu insanlara, ve Meren yanımda olmasa kafayı sıyırıp ilk fırsatta bir Avrupa ülkesine doktora için transfer olma çalışmalarını başlatır, ya da kendimi yollara vurur seyyah olur, “jangıl”larda kelebek avlardım. (Bazen yine de yapmak istediğim şeyin bu olduğunu düşünmüyor değilim. Ama o da başka bir hikaye.)
Mesela Amerika’da uzun saçlı erkek kişiler “serseri” olarak nitelendiriliyorlar genellikle ve uzun saç kesinlikle bir entellektüel insan olma durumunun simgesi değil. Burada o ya da bu şekilde bir “kategorinin” insanısınız. Sınırlar çok keskin. “Geçiş formları” yok.
Benim okulda genel olarak gözlemlediğim ve çoğunluğu oluşturduğunu farkettiğim Amerikalı genç insan tipi, sürekli bir “partying” modunda, akşamları ne kadar çok dışarı çıkıp dans edip eğlenirse o kadar “cool” olan, bu akşam gezmelerine pür makyaj, süper kıyafetlerle filan gidip, gündüzleri okula spor ayakkabı, spor bir şort ve LSU tişörtü ile gelen insanlar. Eğer ayağında spor ayakkabı yoksa kesin parmak arası terlik vardır (flip flop). -Bu terlik spor ayakkabı durumu hem erkekler hem kızlar için geçerli-. Mesela “normal” Amerikan gençliği Converse tipi ayakkabı giymiyor. O dövmeli, serseri arkadaşlar giyiyor onlardan.
Neyse, bir şekilde, ODTÜ işletme hatunlarındaki ciksliğin geceleri hortladığı, gündüzleri de özü ciks, dışı “az önce ayrobikten geldim” olan ablalar ile, bakımlı, kısa saçlı, cilalı tıraşlı erkekler. Bir nevi Ceza’nın şaşkın oğlanları.
Şimdi bu ahval ve şerait içinde, Histoloji dersinin Internet bağlantılı, dev ekranlı amfisine geri dönüyoruz. En ön sıraya oturuyoruz, izole bir insanız çünkü, ayrıca önyargılıyız, ve bir türlü bu gençliğe ısınamadık, elimizde değil, uzak olmak istiyoruz. Bu bakımdan işimize bakıyoruz, en önden hocamızın anlattıklarını dikkatle (hadi ordan, uyumamak için savaş vererek – bu da ayrı bir hikaye) dinliyoruz, yazıyoruz. Neji’yi bilenler ne kadar karizmatik bir ninja arkadaşımız olduğunu da bilirler :)
Ertesi gün kendisini kantinde gördüm. Yalnız takılıyordu. (Amerikan gençliği yalnız takılmaz, yalnız insan “looser” insandır.) Bir yandan sandövişini tırmıklıyor, bir yandan hipnozsal bir halde laptopunun ekranına bakıyordu. Beni de şeytan dürttü, “bu çocuk şimdi o gerzek Amerikan gençliğinin karşısına, uzun saçları ile dikilmiş bir tıp öğrencisi, çeşitliliğin bir neferi. Yürüsün!” hisleri içindeyim. Ben bunları düşünürken o bir ısırık daha alıyor, gözlerini kısıyor biraz daha ekrana bakarken. Meraklandım iyice, böyle karizmatik bir insan, buralarda görmeye alışık olmadığımız cinsten bir şahsiyet, neye bakıyor olabilir? Ne bileyim makale mi okuyor, haberleri mi okuyor? Belki sanatsal bişeyler olabilir. Youtube’den bir şey izliyor olabilir. Merakıma yenildim sonunda, arkasından doğru geçerken ekranına bir göz attım çaktırmadan, neye bu kadar ilgi ile baktığını anlamam için çok yakında olmama gerek yokmuş meğer. İşte şunu gördüm.

Dneiz, benimkisi biraz tercihten çok zorunluluk olmaya başladı sanırım. Bu cümlenin üzerine buraya hem :( hem :)
Pınguar’cığım o günler çok uzak buralarda. Yine de tabi belki çocuk kafasını dağıtıyordu öğle arasında, kemik ismi, hücre çeşidi ezberlemeye çalışmaktan beyni zonklamıştır belki.
Ama “solitaire” yaaa :(((
Bi de benim lafım -en azından bu yazı dahilinde- Amerikalılara, annecim, senin de üstüne alınacağın varmış, belli ki için için suçluluk duyuyorsun “solitaire”e “aç evladım bi fal daha” derken :) eki eki.

Ah amerikan gencligini cok guzel tasvir etmisin, ben bir California’da boyle zannediyordum… Berkeley’e yerlestim belki burada daha acik dusuncelidir insanlar diye ama ayni seyler her yerde… Cok sikildim buradan, genel izolasyon bende de var neyazik ki :(

Seneye bir de TA olunca gordukleri herseyi “Bu ne, sinavda sorarlar mi?” diye baslasinlar, o zaman daha da bir seveceksin (!) tip ogrencisi organizmalarini…

looser…ifadesi de ilgimi acaip çekti..Akaşa yayınevinin dipnotu gibi…”bu bir kaybedenler tribidir…”çok kişiyi kaybettiğim için geçmişte korktum..o kadar medeni olduğu düşünülen bir ortamda hem de looser muhabbeti…

Hayır hayır, bu diyarlarda bir insanın “varoluş kaygısı” gibi sofistike ve derin kaygılara öyle kolay kolay düştüğünü görmedim henüz ben :) Çok az insan tanıyorum öyle. Buraya gelip gerçekten görmeniz lazım elbete anlamak için. Bunun yazıyla anlatılması çok zor çünkü.
“Loser” kavramının çıkış noktası olduğunu sandığım ülke de burasıdır zaten. (Bu arada yukarıda yanlış yazmışım:). Fakat uzaktan bizler bu tip kavramları bambaşka algılıyor, alıp kendimiz kullanırken anlamlarında çok hafif ama çok önemli değişiklikler yapıyoruz. Türkiye’de bir dönem ortaya çıkan radyo programıyla “kaybedenler kulübü” edebiyatına kendini mensup hisseden insanlarbaşka türden insanlardı :) Sanırım özellikle “kaybedenler kulübü” yüzünden, Türkiye’deki loser anlayışı başka bir şeydir bence.
Buradaki (ABD) loser kavramı ondan çok başka bir şey. Çok daha yüzeyde bence. Mesela yalnız yemek yersen “Loser” gibi görünürsün. (Örnek burada)
Kötü bir araban varsa losersın. Kız/erkek arkadaşın yoksa losersın. Falan filan…
İnsanlar yalnız yemek yemekten kaçıyorlar köşe bucak burada :)
